The galaxie is the 2007 north/south pre65 challenge champion
The Beast is Back
By Kelly Jeffs
Tony Jeffs and his 1962 NASCAR replica Galaxie are returning to Pre 65 this coming season to make their final racing debut. Tony who has had 5 years off has finally decided to give the girl one last run.
The ’62 Galaxie was built from scratch by Tony and is now running a Big block FE 427, the same engine that won Ford it’s 24 hour Le Mons title and hundreds of drag racing and NASCAR titles throughout the 60’s and 70’s.
Jeffs has been supporting Pre 65 for almost 20 years and originally started in a Mark 1 Cortina before he made his swap to the grunty V8 Galaxie also known as Galactica, in 1989.The car has raced at every circuit in New Zealand including Wigram and the Nissan Mobil 500 in the Wellington street race. It does a 12.9second ¼ mile and was clocked at 260kph over a flying kilometre as well as winning multiple burnout competitions at Muscle Car Madness.
With a huge range of cars in the Pre 65 class, including Belvedere, Mustangs, Cortina’s, Anglia’s, Valiant’s etc everyone will have a favourite. The Galaxie is a very competitive car and our ambitions are to walk away with the Pre 65 Championship title.
Tony would like to thank his main sponsors Moorehouse Muscle, Valvoline, Mag and Turbo and Lets Get Graphic and the countless other supporters for their help over the coming season.
Come and watch us burn rubber at Ruapuna, Levels or your local racing circuit.
Cya there!
